As we plan and enjoy summer holidays we are reminded of those who work behind the scenes who help us make travel and holidays possible.

Particularly deserving of acknowledgement are those involved in tourism who help us when things go wrong, and we have to change our travel plans.

Sandra Lawrence nominated Diane de Jong for an Awesome Service Award because she provided exceptional service in a crisis, as Sandra explains.

"My husband and I, along with our daughter, son-in-law and our 3 grandchildren had booked a holiday to the Gold Coast.

On the morning of our departure we were woken at 3.45 in the morning to be told that my husband's father had passed away.

What were we to do? Three little children had gone to bed knowing they were off on a big plane when they woke up.

After much discussion, we decided to postpone our trip, so our daughter rang Diane and left the whole thing in her hands.

She re-scheduled everything and 5 days later we were off on our holiday, still somewhat in shock but very very grateful for Diane's expertise.

She had covered everything-flights, accommodation and car hire. We didn't have to do a thing apart from pay a difference in price."
