The Oxford Dictionary defines the meaning of hospitality as "the friendly and generous treatment of guests or strangers."

Indeed true hosts display care and compassion for their guests, qualities identified in Awesome Service Award winners Gillian and Shane Dickson of Academy Motor Inn.

Guest Janine Baker explains:

"We had a flood in our house and the insurance company had put us up at the Academy Motor Inn.

Our experience has been unique and inspiring, regaining trust in our business community.

They have a very personal style to their business and I hear them constantly engaging in genuine concern, interest in the guests.

They have completely gone out of their way for my daughter and myself, trying to assist us through what has been a stressful time.

In conjunction with this I have an artificial leg and was unable to walk for a period, they rehoused some guests and offered us a ground floor apartment.

There was a group of English police recruits staying in the motel and they again went beyond their job by making them at home.

One female officer was out running on a Saturday morning and was hit by a car and broke her leg.

Immediately Gillian and Shane took charge of the 14 month old baby and sent the husband off to the hospital to stay with his wife for the day.

This was on a busy Anniversary weekend when they were flat out cleaning rooms from a packed house.

I myself own a business and endeavour to focus on customer service at all times.

It is not easy - what I have witnessed from these fantastic hosts has inspired me for my own business which is why I have nominated them for this award."
