In tough economic times many businesses understandably revert to focusing on their bottom line. However maintaining a sense of community may be more important than ever...and can sometimes result in unexpected payoffs, such as winning an Awesome Service Award. Althea Hanna explains why the North Shore company The Steel Guys deserves such recognition: "Our church sponsors Heartlands Community Centre by providing our gymnasium free of charge for North Shore mums to run play group. We were looking for a way to put safety gates on the double doors of our gymnasium to stop the play group children running outside onto the drive. We approached a number of steel fabricators, including The Steel Guys, for a quote. When Charlie James from The Steel Guys learned that Heartlands Community Centre is a non-profit organisation, he designed, manufactured and installed child safety gates completely free of charge! Of course the play group mums were enormously grateful (they have their own bank account and operate on donations) and bought a card and some ginger beer for Charlie and his workers. Subsequently, we learnt that Charlie also sponsors Long Bay College and Long Bay Intermediate manufacturing various products for the schools! We think Charlie and The Steel Guys deserve more than a card and some ginger beer so we are delighted to nominate them for the "Awesome Service Awards!" Congratulations to Charlie James of The Steel Guys - a worthy winner of an ASB Awesome Service Award Ph: 021 648 435 www.bluewave.co.nz | ||
