Low value, one-off sales can often cost businesses money - in cash terms. But handled properly they create huge customer goodwill and loyalty that is worth many times the ticket price of the item sold.   A seemingly insignificant sale, backed by great service, sends a powerful message that staff love what they are doing and care about the people they are dealing with.           Here is a great example. Aucklander Heather Newkirk visited a friend in the United States who fell in love with a pair of very Kiwi pohutukawa-themed jandals she was wearing. On her return to New Zealand Heather went looking for a pair to send to her American friend. "I went to the Auckland store where I bought them and they had other styles but the lady didn't want to know about trying to find the pair I was actually after. After trying several equally disinterested souvenir shops in downtown Auckland I went into the Queen Street store "From N to Z."  Yukako Harris was my first point of contact. She looked through several books and found the jandals I was after and said she would put in an order for me and if they were still available she would ring me. Several days later Nikos Jason (a fellow sales assistant at " From N to Z")  phoned to say they had located a pair, confirmed the size, gave me a price ($27) and said the store would ring again when the Jandals arrived. Nikos rang again a few days later to say they had arrived, and asked if I would I like to collect them or have them couriered -- which was very helpful as I live at Hatfields Beach. I paid by Visa over the phone and two days later the Jandals were on my doorstep. At all times I felt this store was trying its best to serve me. They were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and I was kept informed every step of the way. When I rang to get names I was told a lady called Jamie Paaka also played a role in getting the jandals from the wholesaler. WHAT AN AWESOME TEAM! The jandals now reside in the US, uniquely Kiwi."
